This experiment took place in California where, starting on June 22, some seedlings were planted. In one pot, we used CFL lighting, and on the other pot, we used our LED grow light bulb. You may wonder what’s the difference between the two, and we will gladly explain it in a simple way.
CFL stands for “compact fluorescent lamp”, and they were designed as an improvement from incandescent lights. They last, approximately, eight to fifteen times longer, and use one-fifth of the power, providing the same amount of light. They are also more expensive, but the amount of money saved by their decreased use of energy makes up for it. CFL was a big step towards the future until LED lights showed up.
LED stands for “light-emitting diode”, and they are the improvement from the CFL lights. They use about 10% of the energy used by incandescent lamps, providing the same amount of light. Also, they have a lifespan of 25 times longer than incandescent lights, being significantly more efficient than CFL lights.
Even though they are both good options for growing any type of plant, LED is superior in every way. They emit way more light than CFL, making it easier to grow big plants. CFL is not a good option when it comes to multiple plants, as they would need to be very close. Plus, CFL contains mercury, making it very hard to dispose of them.
One big misconception about growing cannabis with artificial lighting is that you need massive amounts of LED grow lights. That’s simply not true, in fact, we recommend two light bulbs per plant. In this study, you will prove that you, as well as the efficiency of our 100W LED grow light bulb. Stay tuned for the next updates!
